Arcade Game Waylon Smithers has stolen a diamond for Mr. Burns, but bumps into the Simpson family, dropping the diamond, and Maggie picking it up to replace her pacifier. Now the rest of the family must make their way to rescue Maggie in this four player beat ‘em up.
Before the arcade game had come out there were other games based off of The Simpsons. The game came out amongst the slew of other beat ‘em up games that were the craze of the early nineties.
Gameplay is pretty simple. Move the character around the screen. Kick, punch, and special maneuver the enemies until they stay down, defeat the bosses in each level, defeat the final boss and win the game. I know my description makes this seem mundane, but there was a good portion of the game that was pretty fun.
Out of the character/show/cartoon/comic book themed beat ‘em up games The Simpsons is definitely one of my faves, even though I no longer watch the show anymore. I was pretty thrilled to see the game on the Xbox Live Market and downloaded a copy to relive the awesomeness and to flashback to the days of dropping quarters in the arcades and fun centers.
Just curious! Why the fuck did they call those places “fun centers”? I really don’t think getting hustled and beaten up for your quarters by the little assholes that would frequent these places is by any means of the word fun. They should’ve been called “Get Beat Up By The Little Hoodlums And Have Your Money Stolen While You Wait Bruised With A Bloody Nose For Your Parents Return Plex”. It is the one reason I am glad the arcades and these places are kind of gone.
